Big Mama Sound is an all female sound system founded in 2003 in Mannheim Germany by Cuttia Ranks. After playing several dances in and around her hometown in clubs such as Germany ́s reggae hot spot Rude 7 Cuttia and Big Mama sound soon begun to gain fame all over Germany as the number one female sound by captivating the massive with strong speeches and big tune selections.
In 2009, Nimeesha joined the sound and they entered the 5 dubs and go warm up at the riddim clash in cologne Germany where they took the place by storm. After the Riddim Clash, big mama sound got international attention and numerous bookings all over Europe. They were invited to play the 5 dubs and go in 2010 as the defending champions and were able to retain their title. At this time the sound was already known for having a box full of real authentic dub specials, which were cut with major artists personally. Big Mama Sound started a regular dance in Mannheim, called Big mama rama which featured many top sound systems as well as a few live acts.
In 2012 Lynn Luger joined as another Selectress transforming this already heavily loaded sound into a trinity of deadly powers. Big Mama Sound continued during this time to expand it’s reach globally as a force to be reckoned with. It was in April of 2013 as they were invited to play at the “earthday bash” of reggae icon Sizzla Kalonji held in Portmore Jamaica. Big Mama sound known also as the female Kalonji Sound represented well and news about their performance spread all over the island. A month later, Big Mama Sound caught the attention of the Jamaican Observer by playing at a car stereo sound clash held at Jarrett park in Montego Bay on the Jamaican Labor day.
Apart from playing festivals like Reggaejam and dances all over Europe, Big Mama Sound entered the radio sector and had its first show on vrl radio which was presented in honor of Jamaica’s 51st independence.
Big Mama Sound continues to focus on productions and collaborations with different artistes, continues to rock dances, continues to load their dubbox, and work on their aim; – to be the official and undisputed female counterweight to all male soundkings out there.
